Funding for music program
(HMMS News - May 9th, 2009)

Thanks to the efforts of music instructor Judith Muir and grantwriter John Essek, Hawk Meadow Montessori School has received $1,000 in funding for its music outreach programs. The Community Foundation of Dutchess County is granting the school funding for Sing Out! Reach Out!, an innovative music program that teaches children old-time popular songs and trains them to interact with residents of senior homes using music as the primary focus. Sing Out! Reach Out! is a program led by Judith and Peter Muir of Institute for Music & Health (formerly Music for Life).

The $1,000 in grant money will go toward expenses related to the outreach trips. Thanks to the funding, Peter Muir will accompany the children and seniors on piano as they sing and dance, and all bus expenses for the trips will be covered.

The staff and students of Hawk Meadow Montessori School wish to thank the Muirs and John Essek for submitting the grant proposal on the school's behalf. We look forward to a multitude of exciting outreach opportunities next school year!
